LG’s Lightwave technology outperforms both convection and microwave ovens

Karachi, October 16, 2012 – Meals can now be prepared in a third of the time of a traditional convection oven, thanks to LG’s Charcoal Lightwave Oven. The innovative appliance, which was recently showcased and tested to its limits during LG’s ‘Life Tastes Good Championship’ at the One and Only Royal Mirage in Dubai, takes cooking to the next level of innovation, with a range of unique features to complement any cooking experience.

Renowned UAE Nutritionist Kiram El Tbayli, from VLCC, who was part of the judging panel during the Life Tastes Good Championship, said: “With the ‘fast-food’ society that continues to grow in the UAE, grabbing that cheap, quick and easy snack on the way home from work is all too tempting. But one needs to cook a healthy and world-class meal from their home, in much less time than a traditional oven.”

When describing her experience of using the Charcoal Lightwave Oven, first place winner of the Life Tastes Good Championship, Mrs. Sheelu John, said: “It was a pleasure using the Lightwave Oven. Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to grace the 11th Asian Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility

October 12, 2012 – After ten successful runs in six of Southeast Asia’s major cities — Manila, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Ho Chi Minh, Bangkok and Singapore — the Asian Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility (AFCSR) once again returns to Thailand to hold the 11th AFCSR at the Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok.

On October 25 and 26, more than 50 CSR experts from various industries will converge at the conference, which will be concluded by the Asian CSR Awards gala dinner and awarding ceremonies. Her Excellency Yingluck Shinawatra, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand will be the guest of honor and will be presenting the awards to organizations on the evening of October 26, 2012.

Earlier this year, Prime Minister Shinawatra confirmed her government’s commitment to working with the private sector in building a society of good governance and social responsibility, with plans to support health and wellness, tourism and education in the region.

This dovetails with many Thai companies represented in the conference who have a strong CSR strategy; some of whom are Bangkok Bank, Double A (1991) PCL, Mitr Phol Sugar Corp., and The Siam Cement PCL.

Since 2003, the Asian CSR Awards Program has been recognizing and honoring Asian companies for embodying the principles of corporate responsibility in their business philosophy and operations. The awards seek to identify, honor, and provide role models of best practices for other companies. It is presented by the Asian Institute of Management – Ramon V. del Rosario, Sr. Center for Corporate Social Responsibility (AIM-RVR) and Intel Corporation.

This year’s Asian CSR Awards saw the submission of more than 300 programs from 88 companies and 13 countries. Awards will be given in the focus areas of Value Chain Management, Governance and Society, Labor and Employee Engagement, and Product Responsibility and Consumer Rights. The Intel-AIM Corporate Responsibility Award (IACRA) will be given to the company that has taken a fully-embedded approach to corporate social responsibility across all the four focus areas and has implemented projects that have a significant impact and are sustainable in all appropriate areas of operations. The winners will be announced on October 26 at the awarding ceremonies at the Shangri-La Hotel.

World’s Largest and Slimmest OLED TV Unveiled

Karachi, October 09, 2012 – LG Electronics, recently unveiled The Ultimate Display Technology: The world’s largest and slimmest 55-inch OLED TV during a ceremony which took place at GITEX Shopper. His Highness Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, unveiled this sen-sational technology.

Emirates Welcomes 25th Airbus A380 to its Rapidly Expanding Fleet

Offers First Mobile Phone Service Onboard A380 Aircraft

Karachi, October 06, 2012 – Emirates, in a perfect example of its position as one of the world’s fastest growing airlines, took delivery of its 24th and 25th Airbus A380 and its 78th Boeing 777-300 recently. The aircraft will be immediately engaged into service across Emirates network of 126 destinations in 74 countries; supporting Emirates planned expansion of its network and flights. The delivery of three wide-body aircraft in one day, a record for Emirates, required careful review and advance preparation within all operational units to ensure the availability of the required flight crew, cabin crew, engineers, airport staff in time to ensure a smooth entry into service.

At the same time, Emirates becomes the first airline of the world to offer inflight mobile phone service onboard an A380 aircraft; setting yet another record for inflight communications. In partnership with Emirates connectivity partner, OnAir, passengers aboard Emirates’ A380 aircraft will now be able to stay in touch via phone calls or through the mobile data link on their personal devices with their family, friends and colleagues while inflight. The service is in addition to the OnAir WiFi service already available on Emirates A380 aircraft.

“With its large capacity and excellent operating economics, the A380 is one of the pillars of Emirates’ future growth. Our A380s are specifically deployed on high density routes where extra capacity is needed and have been well-received by passengers,” said Adel al Redha, Emirates Executive Vice-President of Engineering and Operations. “Similarly, as the world’s largest 777 operator and the only airline in the world to operate every model in the Boeing 777 family, including the 777 Freighter, our Boeings provides reliability, performance and the operating economics Emirates requires to support our ambitious and strategic growth plans. Both the aircraft types exemplify our commitment to operating a modern fleet for the benefit of our passengers.”

The jubilee Emirates A380 aircraft was handed over to the Emirates aircraft acceptance team by Michael Pflaum, Airbus Head of A380 delivery in Hamburg, during a delivery ceremony at the planemaker’s Jürgen Thomas A380 Delivery Centre. With 25 A380 aircraft now in its fleet, growing to 31 by the end of 2012, Emirates is the largest A380 operator worldwide and with 90 jets on firm order by far the largest A380 customer. The Dubai-based carrier was the first airline to order the A380 and thus enabled Airbus to proceed with the programme. The further 65 A380s on Emirates’ order book is part of Emirates’ overall 216 aircraft still to be delivered; worth US62 billion.

Commenting on this historic delivery, Mr. Khalid Bardan, Vice President Pakistan Emirates Airlines said, “The number of travelers from Pakistan on Emirates is on the rise and with the addition of these aircrafts, these travelers can now enjoy the luxury and comfort of these aircrafts when they are traveling beyond Dubai.” “This fleet expansion reiterates our commitment to operating a modern fleet for the benefit of our passengers and to ensure operational efficiency as well.” He further added.

“We are extremely proud to be handing over to Emirates their 25th A380,” said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customers. “With its growing fleet of A380s, Emirates has raised the bar for the industry in terms of passenger comfort and economic efficiency. Operating at some of the world’s busiest airports, Emirates A380s are proving day in, day out not just how good the aircraft is at reducing congestion but also how quiet and environmentally friendly it is.”

Amongst its 186 aircraft in operation, Emirates has the world’s largest fleet of A380s which currently serve Amsterdam, Auckland, Bangkok, Beijing, Hong Kong, Jeddah, Kuala Lumpur, London Heathrow, Manchester, Munich, New York JFK, Paris, Rome, Seoul, Shanghai, Sydney, Tokyo and Toronto. Melbourne today joins the A380 network and Moscow and Singapore will receive Emirates A380 service in December. In early 2013, Emirates will expand operations at Dubai in the world’s first exclusive A380 terminal, Concourse A, at Dubai International Airport.

Visiting Japanese business delegation positive about Pakistan

Karachi, October 09, 2012: The first Japanese business delegation to visit Pakistan in over 10 years expressed a positive impression about the country, after spending 2 busy days in Karachi on the first leg of its visit to Pakistan. The 23 member delegation comprises of C-level executives and top management of Japanese companies from several different sectors, many of whom are first time visitors to Pakistan.

The delegation’s visit has been arranged by the Japanese External Trade Organization (JETRO), which is a non-profit official trade and investment promotion agency working under the aegis of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Govt of Japan. JETRO has been operating in Pakistan for more than five decades. Since its inception JETRO Karachi Office has been has been making endeavors to promote trade and investment and strengthening bilateral relations between Japan and Pakistan.

During its stay in Karachi, the delegation first visited on Sunday the ongoing EXPO 2012, in which there is also a large Japanese Pavilion. Here they also met with senior executives of TDAP and other government officials. Later the same afternoon the delegation held networking sessions with local business leaders and office-bearers and members of different business associations. Deriving valuable insights from their interaction, the delegation members opined that the potential for expansion of trade between Pakistan and Japan was substantial.

“I have been surprised to know that the business promotion policy is quite welcoming for the investors in Pakistan. There’s this perception among Japanese people that Pakistan is a dangerous and high risk country and yet I think that this situation can be purposeful for business operations. I think that Pakistan is better as a country from where I am expecting the perks. I have good expectation from the business sector of the country”, said Mr. Daisuke Hiratsuka, Executive Vice President, JETRO, Tokyo, “People here are very friendly and smart. Their working style is comprehensive and systematic. I think that Pakistan is very capable for business investments and it’s a potential business hub for the foreign investors”.

On the second day of its stay in Karachi, the Japanese delegation visited the Toyota plant at Indus Motor Company and the Port Qasim Authority and got an insight on the Port

operations, before driving through Bin Qasim Industrial Park (BQIP), a project of National Industrial Parks, and going onto Jinnah Terminal to catch a flight for Islamabad. In Islamabad the delegation will be meeting the President of Pakistan and Many Senior government officials and convey their concerns and opinions. Then proceed to Sialkot and Lahore on the last leg of their visit to Pakistan. They will be networking with the Pakistani businessmen in Lahore n support from Punjab Board of Investment & Trade, also going through the markets and then depart for Japan.
