Airline reaches 1 Million fans in only 8 months

Karachi, December 04, 2012: Emirates, one of the world’s fastest growing airlines, is on the runway to Facebook fame after reaching one million fans globally. The remarkable traction of Emirates’ Facebook page positions the airline as one of the most rapidly developing social media players around.

The airline, now flying under the banner of “Hello Tomorrow,” launched its Facebook page on 25th March and attracted 300,000 fans in just three weeks. Within only a few more weeks, it was the number one airline on Facebook in the MENA region. Two months later, the page reached half a million fans and today, within only eight months of launching in the social media space, Emirates has reached one million Facebook fans.

Fresh from its Facebook success, Emirates has also just launched its Google+ page attracting over 250,000 “+1s” in just three weeks. The new page allows fans to interact with the brand through their passions such as photography, travel or aviation.

Both social media platforms have been set up to support the airline’s evolution from a travel brand to a global lifestyle brand. Emirates has already successfully involved fans in its “Hello Tomorrow” brand platform with its Facebook page. With posts about its fleet, products, sponsorships and crew, Emirates is now one of the most engaged brands, not only in the airline category but amongst other lifestyle brands.

“Owning a space in social media was a natural progression for Emirates on its global trajectory,” said Boutros Boutros, Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President Corporate Communications. “To attract 1 million fans in such a short period of time is a major achievement and reflects the deep-rooted support we enjoy around the world for our products and services. It is also a powerful endorsement of the brand and we thank all those who “like” us and follow our posts on a regular basis,” Mr Boutros added.

The airline flies to 126 destinations in 74 countries across six continents with a fleet of modern fuel efficient aircraft, including the world’s largest fleet of Airbus A380s.

Emirates Renews Sponsorship of Domestic Cricket in Pakistan

Thursday, December 6, 2012

KARACHI, December 06, 2012 Emirates, one of the fastest growing international airlines, has renewed its sponsorship of domestic cricket in Pakistan. The airline has a long history of supporting cricket and – as Co-Sponsor of the 2012 Faysal Bank T20 and the 2013 Faysal Bank T20 Super8 – is set to further strengthen its commitment to Pakistan and the sport.

As an ICC Official Partner, Emirates supports cricket at a global, domestic and grassroots level, and this represents the second successive season of its backing of the game in Pakistan following its successful involvement in a number of events in 2011/12.

“Emirates is a world-renowned company and its support last season added great value to the domestic game,” said Asif Jamal, Director Marketing Pakistan Cricket Board. “The airline shares our belief in effort, commitment and hard work and these common principles will create a special understanding. This strategic alliance helps bridge the talent gap of sports in Pakistan,” added Jamal.

With naming rights to all the participating teams, as well as branding on their shirts and in the stadiums, the sponsorship is Emirates’ most significant involvement in mainstream sports in Pakistan, while it also allows the airline to continue its contribution to the local community.

“To be associated with a sport which the people of Pakistan are renowned for following with immense passion allows us to build a closer connection with them,” said Khalid Bardan, Vice President Pakistan & Afghanistan. “Last year, we hosted hundreds of pupils from disadvantaged schools at matches, while our sponsorship rights enabled us to take star players to a number of orphanages and schools where we staged coaching clinics and signing sessions.

“We aim to do this again this season, while the sponsorship also demonstrates our on-going support for the growth of cricket. Domestic cricket has produced many world-class players and we hope that this will enable Emirates to play a role in the continued success of the sport,” continued Bardan.

Since Emirates launched with its inaugural flight to Karachi in 1985, its Pakistan operation has expanded to 39 weekly flights to four destinations – Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar.

Lahore Lions stars hosted coaching clinic and signed autographs for CARE Foundation students

KARACHI, December 13, 2012 – Emirates, one of the fastest growing international airlines, provided an unforgettable experience for youngsters from the CARE Foundation by staging a coaching clinic with star players from National T20 champions Lahore Lions.

The children were thrilled as Umar Akmal and Nasir Jamshed signed autographs and posed for pictures at the Gaddafi Stadium. They also had the opportunity to ask the Pakistan international players about their lives as professional cricketers. In addition, the youngsters bowled deliveries to their special guests and tried batting against them.

“It is tremendously satisfying that through our sponsorship of domestic cricket in Pakistan we are able to stage events like this which inspire youngsters. We aim to extend our support by providing opportunities such as this to children who can benefit from meeting with these experienced, national cricketers,” said Khalid Bardan, Emirates’ Vice President, Pakistan. “Children look up to cricket players and hopefully this activity will not only help them develop their cricket skills, but also inspire them on a personal level,” added Bardan.

“Interacting with these children and experiencing their excitement first hand is a gratifying feeling. Knowing that you may be able to make a difference to their lives is the reason I got involved with the sport in the first place,” said Akmal, star batsman of Lahore Lions.

“Through this great initiative undertaken by Emirates we really enjoyed connecting with the children and were able to offer our advice on techniques as well as what a cricketing career entails. Their passion inspired us,” he added.

A representative from the CARE Foundation – a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a better future to the children of Pakistan by empowering them through education – said the youngsters were delighted to meet the two cricketers.

Emirates also recently arranged for 100 children from the CARE Foundation to witness the National T20 final. The airline treated the children to an exciting day as they watched their cricketing idols from the stands.

The airline has a long history of supporting cricket through its various sponsorships across the globe. The National T20 was the latest tournament in Emirates’ collaboration with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Following this, the airline will also be supporting the upcoming Faysal Bank Super8 T20.
