Strings’ take on the rendition of the classic spiritual song is set to be a beautiful auditory experience with a multi-faceted and nuanced blend of devotional poetry, fervent chants of ‘Jhulelal’ intermingled with the sitar and a traditional groove creating a spiritually opulent environment.

Akbar Ali, making his Coke Studio debut in Season 10, has a formal training in qawaali and classical music and uses his crystalline, ethereal voice when he masterfully sings the complex thumri. Arieb Azhar joins Coke Studio for his third Season after his stellar performances with Husn-e-Haqiqi, ‘Na Rained Hai’ and his collaboration with Tina Sani on ‘Mori Araj Suno’ previously.

Music director, composer and singer, Sahir Ali Bagga makes his debut on Coke Studio 10 as one of the 9 music directors on the show and as a featured artist. He remarked “Coke studio is a big platform for music in Pakistan and is well recognized not only in the country but also all over the world. Coke studio has become intertwined with Pakistan’s identity and it truly has become the Sound of the Nation. I have always admired the platform, and it was a dream to be part of the team. So I’m excited to finally be a part of Coke Studio, especially in the milestone Season 10. It’s been a very good experience for me to be a part of this phenomenon that is Coke Studio.”

Sahir Ali Bagga brings his keen ear and virtuosity with him to breathe life into his energetic melody as he collaborates with Aima Baig for ‘Baazi’ a playful, traditional folk song. The young Aima Baig, a fresh voice on Coke Studio brings to the table her strong, sultry and versatile vocals. ‘Baazi’ is a Siraiki classic, with Sahir Ali Bagga adding his own poetry to the original lyrics. Complete with a grooving bass and a truly ethnic percussive section, Sahir Ali Bagga’s music direction brings the song into a delightfully high-spirited terrain that is an attempt to embody the true sounds of the soil.

Musical mastermind, Sajjad Ali makes a stunning directorial debut on Coke Studio with his poignant rendition of ‘Ronay Na Diya’. The reproachful lament conveys the overwhelming emotions of remorse and despair with musical inlays of a sorrowful clarinet and wistful vocals. Sajjad Ali’s classic, celebrated vocals find an interesting match asZaw Ali brings a wild brew of vibrant R&B vocal runs alongside her delicate but powerful classical chops. Film-maker and musician, Zaw Ali, is collaborating with Sajjad Ali for her musical debut in Coke Studio Season 10.

Mekaal Hasan debuts as a music director on Coke Studio taking on a classic ghazal ‘Mujh Se Pehli Si Muhabbat’ written by Faiz Ahmed Faiz and originally performed by Madam Noor Jehan. Unleashing his signature sound, Mekaal Hasan creates a carefully constructed soundscape fitting for the themes of rapture and cruelty that Faiz touches upon in his poetry. The silvery vocals of Humera Channa paired with the honeyed tones of Nabeel Shaukat’s voice make for a fantastic combination to take on this humble tribute to the unmatched Noor Jehan.

After making her debut on Coke Studio Season 7, Humera Channa returns to Coke Studio to share more of her exquisite voice in Season 10. With his soul-stirring performance of ‘Bewaja’ coupled with his duet with Ali Sethi on ‘UmranLagiyaan’ in Season 8, Nabeel Shaukat returns to Coke Studio Season 10 set to steal hearts again with his heart-warming voice.

LG Electronics Announces Second-Quarter 2017 Financial Results

Tuesday, August 1, 2017

Karachi / SEOUL, August 1, 2017:- LG Electronics Inc. (LG) today announced second-quarter 2017 revenues of KRW 14.55 trillion (USD 12.89 billion), an increase of nearly 4 percent from the same period last year, led by the home appliance unit, which reported a 12 percent sales increase from the 2016 second quarter. Three of the company’s four main business units reported higher revenues than a year ago. Quarterly operating income of KRW 664.1 billion (USD 588.2 million) was 13.6 percent higher in 2017, despite a challenging quarter for the mobile business.

The LG Home Appliance & Air Solution Company accounted for the largest share of the second quarter’s revenue and operating income, KRW 5.25 trillion (USD 4.65 billion) and KRW 465.7 billion (USD 412.5 million) respectively. Among second-quarter highlights were strong sales in the Korean market, up 43 percent from the April-June period in 2016. J.D. Power just announced that “LG received more 2017 customer satisfaction awards for Kitchen and Laundry Appliances than any other manufacturer.” * The business unit expects to see growing demand in North America, Europe and Asia while premium home appliances such as InstaView refrigerators and TWINWash washing machines are expected to contribute strong margins.

The LG Home Entertainment Company recorded KRW 343 billion (USD 303.80 million) in operating profit on revenues of KRW 4.23 trillion (USD 3.75 billion), a 2 percent increase from the 2016 second quarter despite the declining worldwide demand for TVs. Strong second-quarter sales of premium TV products, such as LG OLED TVs and LG SUPER UHD TVs, coupled with improved cost management, resulted in a solid 8.1 percent operating profit margin. Premium TV sales are expected to remain strong for LG in the third quarter.

The LG Mobile Communications Company saw a challenging second quarter with revenues of KRW 2.70 trillion (USD 2.39 billion) and an operating loss of KRW 132.4 billion (USD 117.27 million), nearly unchanged from the same period a year ago primarily due to weaker than expected premium smartphone sales and increase in component costs. The North American market remained strong, contributing a 13 percent increase in sales compared to the same period last year thanks to strong performance of the company’s mass-tier lineup. The introduction of the new Q series and the rollout of a new high-end device in the weeks ahead are expected to bolster the company’s performance in the second half of 2017.

The LG Vehicle Components Company continued its strong growth with second-quarter sales of KRW 882.6 billion (USD 781.7 million), an increase of 38 percent from the same period in 2016, in large part due to the success of its telematics business and components for the recently-launched Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicle in the United States. Ongoing investments in new business areas such as advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS), resulted in an operating loss of KRW 16.4 billion (USD 14.5 million) for the quarter. Those investments are beginning to bear fruit; LG just announced its first ADAS camera partnership with a leading German automaker. The market for smart electric vehicle components is expected to see strong growth in the second half of the year, reflecting wider availability of the Chevrolet Bolt in North America and growth of other electric vehicles in Europe.

2017 2Q Exchange Rates Explained
LG Electronics’ unaudited quarterly earnings results are based on IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) for the three-month period ending June 30, 2017. Amounts in Korean won (KRW) are translated into U.S. dollars (USD) at the average rate of the three-month period of the corresponding quarter ― KRW 1,129.05 per USD.

Abbas Arslan, Director Marketing of Coca-Cola Pakistan, sharing his views on 10 years milestone achieved by Coke Studio said, “The evolution of Coke Studio as a platform has been remarkable since its inception. We always try creating an authentic connect between the youth, their culture and heritage and we are proud of the fact that ten years down the line, the platform has not only been able to achieve worldwide acclaim by bridging age, geographic and language barriers, and successfully transcribing itself into a global phenomenon, but has also managed to sustain, getting bigger and better each year.”

Strings, the executive producers of Coke Studio since its seventh season, talking about this rendition of the National Anthem stated, “By bringing together some of the biggest names in Pakistan’s music industry to sing our revered National Anthem, we hope to rekindle the spirit of patriotism and social consciousness in the heart of every Pakistani. This is more significant now than ever, as we are marking seventy years of our independence.”

The music for Coke Studio’s rendition of the national anthem has been produced by Strings and different instruments were used in the recording. Each participating singer and musician got deeply emotionally involved during the production, coming together as one force for this special production of the national anthem.

The much awaited Season 10 is all set to release on August 11.

Thursday, August 10, 2017

Karachi / SEOUL, August 9, 2017:- As South Korea prepares for the largest winter sporting event in its history, LG Electronics (LG) is focusing on improving automated services at the main hub for the world’s travelers – Incheon International Airport (IIA). Starting on July 21, LG will put into trial service a number of Airport Guide Robots and Airport Cleaning Robots at the award-winning airport to assist travelers arriving and departing Korea. The Airport Guide Robot will roam the airport providing information and assistance to visitors while the Airport Cleaning Robot will be on hand to keep the floors impeccably clean.

Airport Guide Robot - 03Airport Guide Robot - 02Airport Guide Robot - 01

By dispatching its robots to one of the largest and busiest airports in the world, LG will be able to provide its robotic services to approximately 57 million travelers who pass through the airport every year. While the robots are officially going into trial service today, they have been a familiar presence to frequent travelers since February, when they began beta testing at IIA. LG engineers have been fine tuning the robots for the past five months, improving their performance based on the data and experience collected during the beta test.

Equipped with LG’s voice recognition platform, the Airport Guide Robot understands four different languages – Korean, English, Chinese, and Japanese – the four most popular languages spoken at the airport, in order to provide assistance verbally. The robot can connect to the airport’s central server to provide information regarding boarding time and locations of restaurants, shops, and much more. With a quick scan of a boarding pass, the Airport Guide Robot can escort the late or lost traveler to the right departure gate on time.

The Airport Cleaning Robot takes LG HOM-BOT’s powerful cleaning performance, autonomous navigation, and object-avoidance capability and applies them to a commercial, public environment. This robot detects the areas that require the most frequent cleaning, stores those locations in its database and calculates the most efficient routes to get there.

With these airport robots, LG is demonstrating its initiative to develop and expand its commercial robot business as a future growth engine. Currently, LG’s robot business is divided into two sectors: home and commercial. LG’s home robots include the HOM-BOT vacuum cleaner and the new Hub Robot while LG’s commercial business consists of robots specially designed to provide services in public areas such as airports, hotels and banks.

“LG is dedicated to the advancement and development of its robot technologies which includes navigation, voice recognition, natural language processing, and of course, DeepThinQ,” said Song Dae-hyun, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solutions Company. “It is this kind of effort and innovation that will drive LG forward in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”

In line with Season 10’s concept of each episode featuring a tribute song, episode 2 features Jaan-e-Bahaaraan by Ali Zafar, as the tribute song to renowned music composer Master Inayat Hussain, who passed away in 1993. Master Inayat had composed the music to the original version of this song, the lyrics of which were written by Tanveer Naqvi. For episode 2 of Season 10, Shuja Haider has directed the music with the re-imagination of the song staying true to the theatrical and dramatic nature of Pakistani film music, while Spanish musical motifs in its styling has been subtly infused. Ali Zafar proves himself as the perfect cast for the roll of a love-struck beau with his captivating vocals and pronounced stage presence. As Zafar convincingly professes his devotion and adoration for his Jaan-e-Baahaaraan, a powerful string section packed with a punch of percussions serves as the perfect backdrop for this ditty.

The other three songs featured in Episode 2 are Tinak Dhin by Ali Sethi, Ali Hamza and Waqar Ehsin
Faasle by Jaffer Zaidi and Qurat-ul-Ain Balouch, and Sayonee, rendered by the immensely formidable combination of Rahat Fateh Ali, Ali Noor and Salman Ahmed, the founder of the Junoon band, which originally released this song in April 1997.

Speaking about how it feels to bring back Sayonee onto Coke Studio, the biggest musical platform that Pakistan has, Salman Ahmed stated, “What I did not want to do was to rehash a hit song. It had to have an organic feel to it. This is the 20th anniversary of the song. The two connections I have with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Ali Noor, one is when I was playing with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Sahab, Rahat was sitting on my left, and to see that journey, to be so inspired by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Sahab and write this song ‘Sayonee’ because of the music that he inspired me with and then today singing it with Rahat. And twenty years back, Ali Noor and I connected; he also sang a Junoon song, Ghoom Tana. And so him coming, bringing this rock presence into it. And the entire Coke Studio band; I was in a state of mystical ecstasy. Main ghoom raha tha bilkul!”

This episode is thus a heady mix of highly memorable songs and some of the biggest names in Pakistan’s music industry, and is sure to generate huge excitement in Coke Studio fans, both in Pakistan and across the world.

Alongside the duo, shining through the musical landscape of the song, Quratulain Balouch uncovers previously unchartered territory as her textured, emotive vocals seasons the song into one of the sweetest manifestation of heartbreak and loss. Floating on a cushion of warm, layered keys and nostalgic backing vocals, Faasle is an ode to love found and love lost.

LG V30 to Elevate Smartphone Camera to New Heights

Thursday, August 17, 2017

Karachi / SEOUL, August 17, 2017:- LG Electronics (LG) will incorporate an F1.6 aperture camera and glass lens in the dual camera of its upcoming V30 flagship smartphone, introducing industry-leading innovations that bring a new level of photographic innovation to the mobile industry.

LG V30 Crystal Clear Lens

Excellence in smartphone cameras has long been a core competency of LG’s mobile devices and the dual camera module in the upcoming LG V30 will include the world’s largest aperture and clearest lens ever to be featured in a smartphone. LG’s first F1.6 lens is also the largest aperture among existing smartphone cameras, delivering 25 percent more light to the sensor compared to an F1.8 lens. The glass Crystal Clear Lens also delivers greater light-collecting ability than a plastic lens as well as better color reproduction. This makes the V30 particularly well suited for photography and videography.

“LG boasts an unrivaled heritage in smartphone photography and our decision to adopt glass in the V30 camera is specifically because this has traditionally been the realm of DSLRs,” said Juno Cho, president of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “For the users for whom the V series was designed, this kind of innovation is significant.”

In all areas, the camera in the LG V30 is superior to the camera of its predecessor, let alone other smartphones. The camera in the V30 cuts edge distortion by a third compared to the V20 when capturing wide angle shots, making it ideal for group wefies, spacious interiors and expansive landscapes.

Even with all these improvements, the rear camera module of the LG V30 still manages to remain svelte, 30 percent smaller in size compared to the V20. Paired with LG’s specialized UX featuring laser detection AF, optical image stabilization and electronic image stabilization, shutterbugs will find the V30 as easy and convenient to use as its predecessor.

LG Q6 - pic01

The Q6 is the first model in LG’s new Q series of smartphones and was designed for consumers who want a device that offers the technology of LG’s flagship smartphones at an exceptional price that discerning millennials can appreciate. The Q6 shares DNA with the award-winning G6, the first smartphone to offer LG’s FullVision display. With FullVision, LG is able to offer a large screen in a phone that can be used comfortably with one hand, one of the biggest challenges facing smartphone design this decade.

The standout feature of the LG Q6 is its 5.5-inch FHD+ Full Vision display. Not only does this unique display offer maximum space, it also allows for easy multitasking as the screen can be divided into two perfectly square windows, viewable either vertically or horizontally. Square Camera Mode enables the merging of two images into one and the creation of square grid collages popular with social media fans.

Durability is another of this smartphone’s key features. Its metal frame is constructed of 7000 series aluminum a strong alloy commonly used in the aerospace and marine industries with rounded corners to dissipate impact energy when dropped. The LG Q6 was designed with MIL-STD 810G in mind, a standard that tests and measures devices for their reaction to temperature extremes, rain, humidity, sand and dust to determine their suitability for use by the United States military. The battery in the Q6 is also subjected to extra harsh testing process, more demanding than international standards. And to disperse heat most effectively, a thermal pad cooling system is incorporated in the interior and key components are placed far from one another to minimize internal heating.

“We designed the Q series based on extensive research into what millennials want from their smartphones,” said Juno Cho, president of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “The LG Q6 delivers the key features of our flagship smartphones at an exceptional price that will appeal to young consumers world over.”

Pricing and exact date of availability will be announced locally in each market.

Wednesday, August 23, 2017

Pasrur, August 23, 2017: The graduation ceremony of more than 300 female students was held at the Pasrur Vocational Center, which is a part of a Coca-Cola funded project ‘Women Economic Empowerment Program’ in partnership with Kashf Foundation. The community based vocational training schools at the Pasrur Center have delivered three months duration training sessions to the low-income women of the local area, focused on beautician work, domestic tailoring, financial education and personal grooming. The ceremony was attended by Roshaneh Zafar, Managing Director of Kashf Foundation and Fahad Qadir, Director Public Affairs & Communications of Coca-Cola Pakistan.

Coca-Cola Photo Rel (English)

At the ceremony Fahad Qadir highlighted, “Kashf Foundation partnered with Coca-Cola in 2011 to set the ground for a microfinance project that serves the needs of low-income females all across Pakistan. Since then, the project has developed a multi-faceted approach by providing qualitative benefits like gender training to support women empowerment and financial management courses for female entrepreneurs. It is a great step forward for bringing the women of Pakistan into the mainstream, as empowered women contribute significantly both to the economy and the healthy development of families and of society.”

Altogether the project has empowered more than 5,000 female entrepreneurs so far, and in its sixth year, the project has been able to facilitate the enrollment of low-income females in the corporate sector by providing skill-based trainings at Pasrur Vocational Center, to bridge the gap between trainings and employment. Coca-Cola’s global program ‘5by20’ aims to empower more than 5 million females by the year 2020 and Kashf Foundation supports this mandate.

Speaking about the partnership with Coca-Cola Pakistan, Roshaneh Zafar emphasized “Vocational schools provide an opportunity to the low-income females across Pakistan a chance to improve their lives by gaining essential skills. These initiatives and trainings help women enhance their leadership skills and self-confidence, boosting the economy by becoming micro-entrepreneurs and potentially, changing their future.”

Kashf’s internal research has shown that vocational education trainings have a positive impact on wages, employment, mobility and employment opportunity. Complementing vocational trainings with trainings on financial management, self-actualization and self-confidence can help expand the economic benefits of the trainings to the trainees. Around 67% of the graduates of Kashf’s previous vocational trainings are now running their own businesses.
