Coca-Cola Ramadan Cup Reaches Climax

Karachi, August 01, 2013: The Coca-Cola Karachi United Ramadan Tournament reached climax with the finals taking place before hundreds of enthusiastic football fans. Coca-Cola Beverages Pakistan Limited (CCBPL) partnered with the Karachi United to hold the tournament, which was held on a round-robin basis at 2 levels, the Club League and the Youth League, for Under-16 footballers.

For the Club League, the final was held between Young Azizabad and Karachi United Football Club, with Karachi United Football Club emerging victoriousby beating the other finalist by 1 goal to 0. For the Youth League, Lyari Centre defeated Malir Centre by 2goals to 0and emerged as the winners.

Earlier the semi-final matches, In the Club League, the first semi-final was held between Karachi United Football Club andKorangiBalochSharafi, and the second semi-final was between Sajdi Mohammedan and Young Azizabad. For the Youth League the first semi-final took place betweenKorangi Centre and Lyari Centre, and the second semi-final between Malir Centre and Old Golimar Centre.

Zafar Abbas Jafri, Director of Public Affairs and Communicationsat CCBPL, awarded the trophies to the winners and the runners-up. Speaking on the occasion he said, “Coca-Cola is committed to promoting active and healthy lifestyles, and our partnership with the Karachi United to host this tournament takes our commitment even further by working with inner-city youth to drive the sport of football throughout Karachi.”

Also speaking at the awards ceremony for the winning teams, the Karachi United Director, Imran Ali, said “we are very pleased how, by working with Coca-Cola, we have managed to engage youngsters and clubs during the month of Ramadan. It is fantastic to see the enthusiasm with which these games were played and we look forward to partnering with CCBPL in the future to promote such initiatives.”

Over the years, football has greatly increased in popularity, as is evidenced by the large number of teams that participated in both leagues during this Ramadan Tournament. Throughout the various rounds of the tournament, building up to the finals on Sunday, hundreds of football fans showed their passionate support for the game and for the teams by coming out to witness these keenly contested matches and encourage their teams.
